Oh dear, I didn’t get any of my challenges in 2015 and I thougt it would be better if I don’t participate in these bookish events, but then I took a look at twitter, I visited some blogs here and there… And I can’t help myself!
Read my own damn books
With such a title, Andi has made us take charge once and for all of our to-be-read piles of books!
In my case, I plucked up courage and I typed a list (using my Underwood!) with almost all the books I have in my shelves to read. They were 205 books.
I also typed a page with the ebooks I need to read as well (mainly because I purchased them time ago or because I got them for review). A total of 222 books, guys – this is going to be hard.
Since this is a “choose your own adventure” challenge, my rules are these:
- The goal is to read 20-30 books from the list.
- I can only buy/request/borrow from the library once I’ve read 5 books from the list. Then I’ll read another 5 and so on.
- The rule above doesn’t count for book-club books 😛 (you know, because I have to read them for the book club!).
- I’ll chose the books either by asking my boyfriend to pick a number from 1 to 222 or by using random.org.
- I’ll keep track of my progress on twitter using the hashtag #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks.
Wish me luck, my friends; I’ll need it!
Travel the World in books
This challenge is organized by Tanya, and I love it because there are joint readings, readathons, twitter chats, and many activities thanks to which I’ve met a lot of blogger friends.
This year I want to be part of the fun again 😀
My goal is to read and review two books set in every one of these “continents”: Africa, North and South America, Asia, Australia, Antarctica and Europe (but not in Spain).
A total of 14 books. Preferably from the list of the challenge above 😉
Keep calm and read in English
This is the challenge I used to organize in my Spanish blog but, due to my current situation, I don’t have the time to do it again, so a blogger friend took charge of the challenge – I’m so happy it will continue one more year!
Of course, I’m participating: I want to read and review 20 books in English.
The money-box challenge
This challenge began as a meme on facebook, and some bloggers started to do it: you have to put one coin in a jar (is piggy bank really the word for this? I translated it on google!) for every book you read during the year and, at the end of the year, you use that money to buy more books.
Isn’t that an awesome idea???
So I’m participating this year, with my own rules:
- € 1 for every book, in general.
- € 2 for books in Spanish with more than 800 pages.
- € 2 for books in English with more than 500 pages. You know, BECAUSE.
I already have my first Euro in the piggy thing (well, it’s a box in my case), so this is starting very well

I’m ready to read them all!!

Good luck with your challenges. I will repeat with Keep calm and… and the Tarro-libro (Carmen y amig@s).
I can’t not do a challenge as Readmyown…, if I am the whole time changing my mine about my next reading.

Yes, I also have trouble choosing the next book… it’s like standing in front of your wardrobe and say that you have nothing to wear, but standing in front of your shelves and say you don’t have books to read… And I have 222, no less!
Regarding the “Reto in English”, I’m so glad we are doing it again 😀

I love your idea to list all the books you own and have to read! I usually just walk along my shelves waiting for a title to pop out at me, but I’m a sucker for lists. I also love Andi’s challenge.

I would walk around the house complaining because I don’t have books to read, if not for the list, ha! So here it is – 9 pages full of titles. I have no choice but to cope with it 😉
Andi is the best, I agree!

I’m also going to be joining the Read my own damn books!

We are partners in crime 😉
I want to see your list, or at least the number of to-be-read books, just to compare to mine haha

Good luck with all your challenges, and I’m especially pleased that you decided to join us for #ReadMyOwnDamnBooks! ❤

Thanks for organizing it, Andi!
I loved the idea, and we -book bloggers- were so much in need of such a challenge!

As usual you present things with such a spirit of fun, good humor, and love of books. I’m just sticking with the Travel the World in Books and my book clubs because my time for reading has shrunk somewhat. But still I’m always enthusiastic about that next book… Cheers for typing out your TBRs! I would never have the nerve to do that! I just pull something from the nearest pile. 🙂 I will try to do a readalong in March for TTWIB that covers some of my Northern Lights favorites and TBRs. I need to make a poll for that in early February.

And I now have wonderful bookmarks to put in my new traveling reads! Thank you again!

Thanks, Lucy!
I’m so glad we are again participating in the challege. I’m reading less books as well due to my studies, but it’s still one of my favourite activites in order to relax at the end of the day 🙂
I spent several days typing the list, can you imagine? One or two pages per day… until I finished and I panicked at the sight of such a number of books!
So glad you liked the bookmarks!

I definitely need to read my own damned books this year! I’m going to try to read two from my shelves every month.
Isi said:
Haha, Andi knew all of us was in need of her challenge.
Good luck! Two per month is a modest number and, therefore, an achievable challenge, not like mine 😛

Glad to here it’s only 30 of those 200 odd! I realised you wouldn’t be reading them all, but still, seeing that number! I see much fun ahead, you’ve so many to choose from. 5 before a new one sounds a good idea. The coin jar idea is a good one (even if you do end up adding to that list!)
Isi said:
Oh Charlie, you have come up with a better translation for the coin-challenge (actually the translation would be “book jar”, but I saw there was a challenge called that way consisting on putting pieces of paper with book titles in a jar so you pick up your next read by picking one of them, which is not what this one was about).
Strictly speaking I won’t be breaking the rules of “Read my own damn books”: both challenges finish on December 31, so on the first days of January I’ll collect my coins and go to the book shop, and then I can participate “again” in Read my own damn books, including the new ones in my to-be-read pile 😛
Everything is under contol lol
